On March 14th the Colony in Woodstock New York hosted The Travelin’ McCourys! It was a barn burner, as they say in the bluegrass world where the McCourys are firmly planted. After the recent departure of long time member Jason Carter, the band’s fiddle player, fans were understandably nervous for the future. I am thrilled to report we are in good hands, folks! Christian Ward has stepped up and taken the position on. Carter left big shoes to fill, and Ward is clearly up to the task. Every note perfectly delivered, on time and with a style all his own.

The band have clearly done their homework. They played beautifully together, as a long time fan, I can knowledgably attest not a beat was missed. They were as amazing as they always have been. Band leader Ronnie McCoury seemed especially pleased. The fact that this kid has got the chops to throw down and keep pace is impressive to say the least. These guys rip through some fast paced jamgrass making a few pop covers their own and doing original pieces alike.

They keep folks on their feet dancing, and hootin’ & hollerin’ as it should be! Along with Ronnie McCoury on mandolin and Christian Ward joining on Fiddle, the band is rounded out by Rob McCoury on Banjo, Cody Kilby on guitar and Alan Bartram on Bass every single one of these guys is an award-winning musician! That means if you are sleeping on this band, you are missing out. You can check out their tour dates on their website but I would highly recommend making the pilgrimage to DelFest in Cumberland, Maryland.
