The sounds of Latin music, with the reverb of surf guitar transported the audience to a psychedelic dance planet.
The wild light show was provided by BA Miale provided the cinematic element to this show .
The infectious beat and groove of this ensemble kept the audience’s attention. One felt like they were in the middle of a comic indie movie, complete with appearing and disappearing musical themes.
The band worked as a in the pocket groove, with no extraneous notes, all sounds created were part of the pastiche of a giant musical mural.
The opener “Mariposa” had an infectious Latin beat. Mariposa is butterfly in Spanish, the tune makes one feel like they are in a field of flowers, surrounded by butterflies .
“Bar Secreto” is the name of a nightclub in Sao Paulo Brazil, it gives that groove and atmosphere.
Cine Olaya is a slower groove, like a slow motion dance.
Playa Privada is a private beach party. Certainly not an Annette Funicello/Frankie Avalon vehicle. Bongos play an prominent part of the atmosphere. This party is more hip and full of joy.
Although not in style, but certainly in spirit, La Band Chuska is the B52s. Except they are reincarnated and have the diverse neighborhoods of Brooklyn as their major influence.
