Space Trash will be making their way to Eastbound Throwdown 2024 which is set to take place September 6-7 at Irwin Family Farm in Salem, NY. The gig is a home town show for them and also have a Halloween show lined up on October 26th at Unihog in Hoosick Falls, NY. We decided to chat with them about the bands influence, formation and much more. Read the full interview below:

Mirth Films: What are you most excited for when it comes to Eastbound Throwdown?

Space Trash: Seeing old friends and hopefully making some new connections. Most of us were born into the same community as this festival, so we have personal relationships with a lot of the people involved…..from the property owners, to the headliners. In fact off the record we could share some fun nicknames and history of some of these dudes!

MF: What makes the festival so special? Any favorite memories?

ST: Not to cop out, but see above. This is a hometown gig for us. We expect to give and receive a whole lotta love on the Irwin Farm this year…….wink wink.

MF: It looks like you guys are working on some new tracks, what can folks expect with the new music?

ST: The sound remains the same, but the songwriting has evolved. We added Bennet Mason (Keys), which was absolutely necessary to complete our sound. And we lost our founding drummer to his other hobbies (bum). As luck would have it Ryan Strainer was willing and BEYOND able to slide right in and even elevate/bring some new life into some of our old tracks. We stayed tight with Tristan after he “retired” from music, so he did the tracking/engineering on the new recordings. They sound incredible!

MF: Any “Swifties” in the band?

ST: Brittany considers herself 1/2 a Swiftie.

MF: Where do your inspirations come from when it comes to songwriting?

ST: Short answer: Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll! Long answer: We are all coming from different angles. We have a prog/doom drummer, a rock guitar player on the bass, a local legend shredder on guitar, a jazz PROFESSIONAL on keys, and quite possibly the baddest B*!@# around on vocals! We’re covering a lot of ground sonically. It’s really fun how it all comes together…..and a lot of it starts off the cuff in the practice space.

MF: Who are some of your favorite acts that You’ve been able to share the stage with?

ST: Timbre Coup are the first to come to mind with this project…..those guys are intimidatingly professional on their instruments, and as cool as can be off stage! Over the years and past projects….too many to give due credit and thanks for support. The local music scene never seems to cool off.

MF: What are your thoughts on the Reuben Sandwich?

ST: Brittany Says “it’s the only acceptable way to eat sauerkraut,” Mike agrees…..growing up with some polish elders was enough cabbage for one lifetime

MF: How did the band form?

ST: I (Mike), kept getting texts every couple of months from 2 different friends about starting something……this went on for a couple years before Dylan actually followed through and showed up to my place. I brought my guitar counterpart from my last project along as he wanted to switch to drums(don’t we all?)……we threw together a couple short tracks and sent them to Brittany and invited her to a practice. I think it was about 20 minutes with the 4 of us in a room together and we we’re all in.

MF: What are some musical influences that got everyone into playing live music?

ST: Headbangers Ball! (Brittany) I remember seeing Sirsy play in Saratoga circa 2009 and thought they were the coolest. I love to see they’re still touring!

MF: What other shows are you excited about playing this year?

ST: Halloween show 10/26! We can’t get enough of Unihog in Hoosick Falls, NY!
