FRIDAY, AUG. 27


Summer Square Concert Series: Jordan Taylor Hill
6 PM @ Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy | FREE

Jordan Taylor Hill is an artist and percussionist whose work is inspired by African music, Hip-Hop and Djembe. Hill hosts Revolution Radio on SUNY’s 90.9FM WCDB radio station and is the founder and curator of SABALI – A monthly celebration of traditional culture. Hill’s performance will be one of the final shows of Troy Music Hall’s Summer Square concerts in the courtyard every Friday and Saturday night.

Super Dark Days: Architrave, Madeline Darby, Matthew D. Gantt
6-9 PM @ Rare Form Brewery, Troy | FREE

Grab a table outside at Rare Form’s patio on 4th Street in Troy. Super Dark Collective has brought their weekly shows back to the Collar City for an early evening of dark wave, electro-punk and avant garde stylings by Ballston Spa’s Architrave, Troy’s own Madeline Darby–their full band debut featuring Aunt Lonely, 100 Psychic Dreams & Zero Lee–and Matthew D. Gantt.

NOTE: Super Dark Collective strongly urges all attendees to please wear a mask at all shows whether they’re inside or outside. They also strongly encourage bring proof of vaccination when coming to shows.


J. Lee White & Friends
7 PM @ ADCo Bar & Bottle Shop, Albany | FREE

In his solo performance debut (featuring a few friends here and there), artist J. Lee White will perform a handful of new, original music from his upcoming album as well as set of covers to get the audience up and moving. Singer-songwriter Hannah Amigo will also be making her debut, opening up the show.

Art on Lark

Books and Blooms!: The RED Bookshelf and Capital Walls
12 PM @ Discover Albany Visitors Center | FREE
The non-profit community literacy program RED Bookshelf is teaming up with the public art endeavor Capital Walls to highlight Albany artists and authors with a special public arts tour.
Meet artist Liz Zunon for a discussion about her mural, her book “Grandpa Cacao: A Tale of Chocolate from Farm to Family” and take part in a short reading and Q&A. The Q&A session will discuss why the artist chose to write in addition to painting, the author’s journey as a writer and advice for up and coming authors.
10 X 10 Art Show
12 PM @ Saratoga Arts, Saratoga Springs
This year’s 10X10 exhibition features around 300 pieces of original multi-media art created by nearly 100 regional artists.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackberry Smoke & The Allman-Betts Band
7 PM @ SPAC, Saratoga Springs | $29.50 + 

Lucky for us, despite heading out on their “Last of the Street Survivors” Farewell Tour three years ago, country-rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd is still playing out their goodbyes to loyal fans. Catch them at SPAC with Blackberry Smoke and The Allman-Betts Band, who both promise a great show.

Recently, the supporting acts collaborated on stage in honor of the late Dusty Hill of ZZ Top by performing a cover of their song, “Jesus Just Left Chicago.”

Peace, Love, Beer and Music Festival
AUG. 27, 7 PM through Aug. 29 @ Hudson Brewing Co., Hudson

The second annual Peace, Love, Beer and Music festival (happening state-wide) will happen in-person at Hudson Brewing. Catch musical performances by Eli’s Gin (Aug. 27, 7-10 p.m.) and Beer Stained Fiddle (Aug. 29, 2-5 p.m.)

Last year,the craft beer community raised over $27,000 for the New York State Brewers Association (NYSBA), a non-profit trade organization “who unifies, protects and propels the state’s 430+ independent craft breweries through advocacy, education, and promotion.” This year’s celebration will continue that effort.

 

Magic City Hippies, Cool Company
8 PM @ The Hollow Bar & Kitchen, Albany | $20

The Miami indie-funk band Magic City Hippies will play The Hollow as part of their ongoing summer tour with support from “future R&B” writer/producer duo Cool Company. The duo’s upcoming album Bless You drops Sept. 17.

Vibe check? As the Hippies’ bio reads: “If the trio—Robby Hunter, Pat Howard, and John Coughlin—stepped off the screen from some long-lost Quentin Tarantino flick in slow-motion (instruments in hand), nobody would question it.”

 

No More Death Stars, Safety Meeting, Caitlin Barker
8 PM @ 42 Degrees Tavern, Glens Falls | FREE

Catch the very last No More Death Stars show on the East Coast! The “baroque punk” band will throw their last hurrah with Saratoga garage rock band Safety Meeting and Troy’s Caitlin Barker of Candy Ambulance.

 

Molly Durnin, Jeff Garrison
9 PM @ Lost & Found, Albany | $5

“My guitar is my identity. It gives my poetry a melody,” Davenport, Iowa singer/songwriter Molly Durnin says. The artist will share her original tunes on the Lost & Found outdoor patio with guitarist Jeff Garrison.
