“Never miss a Sunday show!” is what folks say in the Jamband world… A barn burner as they say… The Travlin’ McCourys came through Upstate New York this week and played Colony Woodstock and laid us all out! These fellas never ever disappoint, in fact for as many times as I have seen them, they always blow me away.
How to describe this group? The Travlin’ McCourys are a “party version” of legendary Bluegrasser, Del McCoury’s band. They consist of his two sons Ronnie on mandolin and Rob on banjo, Alan Bartram on upright bass, Cody Kilby on guitar and newest member Christian Ward on fiddle. All members of this all-star super group are award winning musicians.
When they are not backing up Del McCoury for his traditional Bluegrass tour dates, they lose the suits and shake it up with a mix of their own original tunes and jam based covers. From a lot of Grateful Dead tunes to Passanger’s “Let Her Go”. Their newest release, a song written by Alan, “Gas And Oil” a autobiographical tune about his time as a youngster working with his own father.
Keep an eye out… These guys who hail from Nashville get up this way a couple times a year. Follow their socials and for goodness sake buy the albums! You won’t regret it!
