The band was started by 4 housemates who were the University of Hartford’s Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz. Eventually other school mates joined and the band debuted in 2024 as a sextet. They first played the Van Dyck in May 2025. The present configuration is a quintet.

Bohdan Kinal on tenor sax and Gavin Tarling on alto sax make up the front end of the band. Aidan Slate on piano, Patrick Gordon on bass and Dan Jantson drummer/spokesperson were the rest.

Clearly the band was rooted in the post bop music, with a heavy Art Blakey influence. They played a single 90 minute set to a near capacity crowd.

The entire set was played with joy and enthusiasm. These guys were clearly not phoning it home. Opening with Bobby Watson’s “Wheel within a Wheel’, it was clear they were sticking to the roots. A jazz arrangement of Pink’s”Who Knew” followed. The other cover played was Monk’s “Ruby My Dear”. Originals played included “Your Middle Name Is Not Tiberius”, “When I Look In Your Eyes”, “Bohdan’s Tune”, ” Tadd Bones Demise ” and Professor P.

The enthusiasm of the audience and the band fed off each other. Extra points were given to the fact that Bohdan Kinal is originally from Delmar.

The band is looking to play at the club again soon. Looking forward to that. In the meantime, the club releases music digital download only at cribtet.bandcamp.com.
