Sam Grisman from Sam Grisman Project and Vince Herman from Leftover Salmon paired up to play some classic American folk music and honor their family and friends at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Max Flansburg joined them on stage as a special guest for this fully acoustic set and what a treat it was!

They entered the intimate Troy Music Hall stage beaming, laughing and telling stories of the “Dawg” and Jerry. Vince would stop and talk with the crowd, pointing out two things that stuck with me. The chairs have top hat holders underneath them, if you flip up the seat and David Grisman has played this very theater many times, as well their good friend John Hartman. One audience member even went on to say “When Sam shakes his head, oh how I have flashbacks of his father”.

They played tunes from David “Dawg” Grisman, Jerry Garcia, Grateful Dead, Doc Watson, John Hartford and Dylan, plus many more. My personal favorite was from David Grisman and Jerry Garcia’s album, “Not For Kids Only, There ain’t no bugs on me” silly and playful. Had the crowd feeling like little kids again, smiles all around. One of their staff told me “All they do is play, 9 hours a day most likely, they play wherever they are” This is joyous work for them and it shows by the smiles on their faces and love in their eyes. You cannot help but feel the love and smile back. If they are headed to a town near you, I suggest you get a ticket!
