Corey Glover the voice of metal band Living Colour took a brief break from the band and performed with his band Soul Experience. We heard another side of this multifaceted performer perform old school tunes to a full house.
Starting with the band opening with the Donny Hathaway’s “The Ghetto”, segued into Glover’s “Lowball Express” through to the Meters “Just Kissed My Baby”. Grooving on funky beats and wah wah guitar. The Band then broke into the Blood, Sweat and Tears classic “I Love You More Than You Ever Know” and then went disco with the O’Jays “Backstabbers” (What They Do). The only Living Colour song performed was the snarling “Love Rears Its Ugly Head”.
Deep catalog R&B was covered, “Little Girl”, I’m a Ram”, “Everybody Needs Someone to Love” and “Harlem” were covered as well as Bee Gees( To Love Somebody), Ohio Players(Skin Tight). Surprising covers included the Beatles “Come Together” and the Doobie Brothers “Taking It To The Streets” and an unplanned encore of Bill Withers’ “Use Me”.
We all left with joy in our hearts and smiles on our faces. Definitely worth the 200 mile round trip to this destiny club in the Mid Hudson Valley.
