Over their 40 plus year career, Phish has one of the most diverse catalogues in all of music. The Vermont quintet featuring Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Jon Fishman and Mike Gordon will go down as one of the greatest American live rock bands of all time. They are a jam band at heart that have influenced thousands of acts across the country.
Even until this day, Phish fill arenas with most shows selling out due to their very dedicated fanbase. The group focuses on once in a life time live performances and ensures that it will be that way every-time. Phish takes improvisation to the next level and changes their setlist up night after night providing refreshing experiences.
While all of the songs are special and unique in their own way, for first time listeners, it could be overwhelming. If you are someone who does not usually listen to long form songs, it could be a challenge to figure out where to start the deep dive. For that reason we decided to come up with our list of Phish songs that are easy to break into. We selected songs all across their discography and below are listed chronologically based on when they were released.
Some of these songs on the list turned us onto Phish when we at Mirth started listening to them. This batch of songs we selected could be looked at as some of the bands more structured tunes that also allow for great jamming. Phish has a range of musical influences from classic rock bands to classical music and there are tunes in the catalogue that could be hard to approach. So that’s why we are recommending these.
If you liked any of these songs and still have yet to see the Phish from Vermont, do yourself a favor and catch them on their next tour. Unlike a lot of acts, Phish has aged like fine wine and are still producing memorable performances night after night. Check out our list of Phish songs to check out if you are first time listener.
