Suede and Manic Street Preachers played the last US show of their co-headlining 2022 North American tour at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre this week. Manic Street Preachers opened the show with a 15 song set that had some in the crowd going wild. They beefed up their set of originals with a few choice covers of Madonna (“Borderline”) and Johnny Mandel (“Suicide is Painless (Theme from MASH)”). The set was solid, but after the changeover to Suede, the real show began. From the second Brett Anderson took the stage, he never stopped moving, including spending what felt like half the show in the audience. The band haven’t toured the US since 1997 and it was a true joy to see them in such great form. The only time there wasn’t lightning bolt like energy flowing through the room was when Brett did two acoustic songs on his own towards the end of the show. It would be a shame if they don’t come back through sooner than another 25 years as it was hands down one of the best sets of the year.
