Gallery: Primus Returns to The Palace Theatre in Albany, NY For Special “A Farewell to Kings” Show
Primus returned to the Palace Theatre in Albany, NY for the first time since fall 2017 playing two incredible sets, one completely dedicated to Rush. The band is currently on tour performing the Canadian legends albumĀ A Farewell To Kings in its entirety for the second set of the their concert.
Opening up for the 3-piece band led by Les Claypool was Battles, a two piece drummer and guitarist/keyboardist coming together to perform what seemed to be Jamtronica style music, getting weird right away in typical Primus fashion. Primus opened up the night with “American Life” and then followed it up with fan favorite “Too Many Puppies” with “Sgt. Baker” sandwiched in between creating room for improvisation and creativity within already incredible songs. Later in the set, the band busted out with “Del Davis Tree Farm,” the first time played in 5 years.
Primus really did a great job in performing Rush’sĀ A Farewell To Kings to the standards the legendary album already has. This set of songs pushed the bar progressively when it was initially released, with Rush taking chances they hadn’t yet before. Hearing Primus perform them to perfection really changed the dynamic of the nearly sold out show. For those unfamiliar with a “Cygnus X-1” could relate to a song like “Closer To The Heart” which nearly put half the room to tears(well at least me).
We highly encourage anyone and everyone to go out and see this special run of Primus shows while you still can. Until then, check out the setlist and a gallery of photos from their performance at the Palace Theatre in Albany, NY below:
