Recap: moe. Makes First Appearance with the “New Guys” at Sold Out Pop Up Concert in Albany, NY
moe. played a sold out pop-up show at Empire Underground in Albany, NY listed as their spelled out name Monkeys on Ecstasy. The show was a last minute treat for all the “moe.rons” and was planned, set up, and performed in a 4 day span. Thank you Greg Bell.
The show featured the bands new lineup including the additions of Nate Wilson(keyboard) and Suke Cerulo(guitar) both to round out the sound while original guitarist Chuck Garvey is healing. The energy was high all night and the band did not miss a beat. In fact, having these two additions gave a whole new sound to songs. Adding the element of a keyboardist really took moe. to another level and hope that when the time comes back, they decide to keep Wilson, who is a seasoned professional musician. He joined Rob Derhak and Vinnie Amico on the road for the one-off Blue Star Radiation shows in recent months and you can tell how well he vibes with the act.
The same goes for Cerulo. While we all wish Garvey could be up on stage with the guys, Cerulo took his own approach providing nasty guitar solos with a tone very reminiscent of Eddie Van Halen. The best sight of the night was the smiles on Rob Derhak and Al Schnier who seemed not only happy with the sound of the bands lineup, but very comfortable taking jams to the next level with the “new guys.” There were many instances of this throughout the night, but definitely showed during “Brent Black” a signature jam vehicle.
