Gallery: Sparks at Boch Center Shubert Theatre
The legendary band Sparks came to Boston this past week and put on a non-stop two hour show at the Boch Center Shubert Theatre to an enthusiastic crowd that sang back every word of every song. Russell Mael’s voice is still impressive, hitting many of the notes he has since the late 60’s. His brother Ron Mael, was as stoic as ever behind the piano, except for his always beloved dance during “The Number One Song in Heaven” and one other time to help not quite sing but speak another song. The set had everything you could want from a Sparks show. There were multiple standing ovations and the end of the night shower of clapping and screaming for the Mael’s was deafening. The smiles on both brothers’ faces were absolutely genuine and I think if they could have played for another two hours, they would have. Ron told us new music is on the way so hopefully they’ll be back around and if they make another trek, it is not to be missed.
