Certain bands get a lot of buzz right off the bat. Sometimes it’s deserved and sometimes it’s not. Well Wet Leg stormed into NYC and showed the sold out Mercury Lounge crowd that the hype is real and everyone better prepare themselves. Having only released four songs so far, Wet Leg played a 14 song set that the crowd ate up. The songs we haven’t heard so far are also filled with great lyrics and catchy riffs and will be getting stuck in your head once you have them on repeat. The debut album comes out next year and is probably going to be on a lot of end of year of 2022 lists. Jetlag definitely caught up with Rhian Teasdale as she started “Don’t Want To Go Out” right after finishing it causing her and the crowd to enjoy a very good laugh. Wet Leg continued through their set though with the excitement of playing for the first time in the states carrying them forward. A great cover of “Psycho Killer” by Talking Heads popped up late in the set and of course “Chaise Lounge” ended it all with the crowd singing it back to the band at full volume. Seeing a band’s debut in the US is surely special and Wet Leg won’t be playing places the size of Mercury Lounge for long, considering their March date in NYC was already moved to Brooklyn Steel. JW Francis opened the set and constantly joked how he wanted to play quickly so that Wet Leg could come on, since he knew everyone was there for them. Despite this I think he won over some new fans with some fantastic tunes and great stage presence.
