“Dancing with the Dead” feat. The Wheel
8 PM @ Lark Hall, Albany | $10
Grateful Dead tribute band The Wheel invites GD fans and live music lovers out for a night of jam rock and dancing at Lark Hall. The band was founded in 2010 by Andy Morse, who spent years chasing the Grateful Dead and playing music. “It’s been said the medicine wheel is a ‘peaceful interaction among all living beings on Mother Earth-it represents harmony, balance and connections. We like to apply that to our live shows the best we can,’” a band statement reads. 

Denise Parent, The Laura Leigh Band
8 PM @ The Hollow Bar + Kitchen, Albany | $15
Denise Parent, longtime drummer for local Grateful Dead tribute band The Deadbeats, will play from her new album, The Songs In My Heart. She is also a founding member of the first all female Grateful Dead Tribute Band, Brown Eyed Women. “Swamp Witch Country Rock” group The Laura Leigh Band opens the show.

Pat Daley Jazz Trio
8 PM @ 42 Degrees, Glens Falls | FREE
Hang out at 42 Degrees, which has just expanded to make space for even more live music and open mic opportunities. They’ll host this jazz trio for an easy night out on the town.

Tech N9ne
8 PM @ Empire Live, Albany | $30-$33
Tech N9ne has been active in the rap industry since the early 2000s, collaborating with popular artists like RZA, T-Pain, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Deftones and more. His music has been featured in several films and video games such as “Alpha Dog” and the “Madden NFL” game series. His latest album ASIN9NE was released this year. The rapper will be joined by openers Rittz, King Iso, Maez 301 and Jerhy Robinson. If you tried to get to this show before, but got thwarted by COVID and other complications, don’t worry. All tickets purchased for the original date, and the postponed date will be honored.

 

FRIDAY, NOV. 12

Caity Gallagher
6 PM @ City Beer Hall, Albany
Folk singer-songwriter Caity Gallagher will woo the City Beer Hall crowd with her lovely vocals and guitar play. Her latest single, “Give It All”, a heartfelt and lush track about love and letting go, was released this June. 

“Forget-Me-Nots” Film Premiere
7 PM @ Charles R. Wood Theatre, Glens Falls | $10
“Forget-Me-Nots” is a heartfelt drama that explores the hardships of everyday life, the bond between father and daughter, various kinds of love, and the aftermath of losing someone close to your heart. In this locally filmed feature, Grace Morris puts her life and career on hold to move back home and take care of her father Henry who is reeling from a recent dementia diagnosis. As she recreates memories from her childhood in hopes to keep his memory alive, she realizes that the only thing her father wants is for her to learn how to let go and let life blossom into what it’s meant to be. “Forget-Me-Nots” was a “passion project for its cast and crew, who filmed over the course of 7 months in 2019. All locations are local to the Glens Falls, South Glens Falls, and Queensbury area,” the director’s statement reads.

Collar City Latinx Night: callejera

Put your dancing shoes on and loosen up those hips–it’s time for the monthly Latin dance night on the streets of Monument Square. Grab a partner or take the floor for yourself. Refresh yourself with a drink at 518 Craft while you’re at it. 

Schleigo, Ampevene
8 PM @ The Hollow Bar + Kitchen, Albany | $17
Schleigho has been a nationally touring jazz-fusion band since the early ‘90s, releasing five albums and touring across the country. The instrumentally energetic, raw and at times down-right sinister will be joined by local band Ampevene. They’ll blend a free form frenzy, jagged riffs, and hypnotic rhythms into a tight, psychedelic, sonic landscape, designed to trip up and trip out any listener. 

Super 400 25th Anniversary Party
8 PM @ The Hangar on the Hudson, Troy | $15-$20
The popular Troy rock trio will celebrate a quarter-century of making music and touring with their fans at The Hangar. Dynamic string duo Sten and Maria Z will open the show.

Chill on the patio this evening and enjoy Troy’s “cosmic country” act IN MTNS, Woodstock noise rock band Bttr Peach and Rochester shoegaze trio Full Body 2.

“The Diary of Anne Frank”
8 PM @ The Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy | FREE, donations accepted
This Pulitzer Prize-winning original play by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett has been newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman. In this transcendentally powerful piece, put on by the Bunbury Players, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit, and determination. You can also catch this performance on Sunday at 2 PM.

The Flaming Lips

Do you realize? (sorry.) This magical mystery band of weirdo rock n’ rollers is coming to Albany for what promises to be a beautiful performance. For those in the dark, the band is known for their elaborate live shows, which feature costumes, balloons, puppets, video projections, complex stage light configurations, giant hands, large amounts of confetti, and frontman Wayne Coyne’s signature man-sized plastic bubble, in which he traverses the audience. They were named one of the 50 bands to see before you dieFor your sake, I sure hope you snag tickets. 

The Mallett Brothers Band, Adam Brockway and Andrew Lynch

Indie Americana crew The Mallett Brothers Band explores sounds and styles that range from alt-country to jam, roots and psych rock. Take the ride with them. Eastbound Jesus’ Adam Brockway and Andrew Lynch will open the night.

 

SUNDAY, NOV. 14

An Evening with C.S. Lewis, Starring David Payne
3 PM @ Troy Savings Bank Music Hall | $55
David Payne has played Lewis in many plays, including over 800 performances of “An Evening with C.S. Lewis.” In this performance, we see Lewis in the twilight of his life, recovering from a recent heart attack and hosting a group of American writers at his Oxford home. The famous British author gives an intimate, humor-laced talk about the events and people that shaped his life and writings–including childhood adventures with brother Warnie, his days as an Oxford tutor where he formed his lifelong friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien, his journey from atheism to Christianity and the unexpected meeting with an American woman who turned his life upside down and the challenge they both faced when she was struck down by cancer.

Capital Region Thomas Edison Music Awards 2021
7 PM @ Universal Preservation Hall, Saratoga Springs | $20-$25
