Hallo-wine Weekend

The Gallery Mixtape Vol. 1: Artist Reception
5 PM @ Collectiveffort, Troy
Meet the artists and explore the works in this exhibition, on view at CE until January 14, 2022. According to co-curators Albany Center Gallery and Jamel Mosely of Collectiveffort, Gallery Mixtape Vol. 1 “compiles a wide range of creative pursuits by local Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) artists working across a multitude of mediums, including drawing and painting, digital animation, mixed media installation, photography, written word, and music production. Gallery Mixtape, Vol. 1 aligns with both ACG’s mission to highlight local creatives and motto “More Art Everywhere,” as well as CE’s goal of cultivating a positive creative ecosystem open to any and all talents of our local community.”

Comedy night at the Hideaway
6 PM @ The Hideaway, Saratoga Springs | $25-$50
Saratoga’s newest event space at the Saratoga Lake Golf Club will feature headlining local comedian Jaye McBride, who has since gone on to appear on Comedy Central and the like, as well as Quentin Davis, Cody Montanye, Andy McDermott and Travis Stealey. Get your laughs in before a weekend of frights and fun.

Girth Control, Turf ‘N’ Turf, BattleaXXX and Schenectavoidz will shake up the Hangar with their killer sounds for this very special Halloween show. Costumes encouraged! Let’s get loud and wild.

Halloween Mega Party

7 PM @ Franklin Alley Social Club, Troy
Hit this two-floor party. The Jagaloons are bringing the live band sound and DJ Jungle Punk will keeping it going through the night featuring costumes, candy, and cocktails (out of blood bags!!) PLUS a free photo booth and reps from Jacks Abby, who will be hanging out to give away free stuff.

Annie in the Water, Hilltop

Upstate jam bands Annie in the Water and Hilltop will do their thang at Lark Hall. Annie in the Water recently released Live from Artfarm and Hilltop has plenty on the horizon to watch.

8 PM @ The Egg Performing Arts Center, Albany | $36
Enjoy a “lush, intimate performance with exquisitely-arranged, literary-minded, baroque folk-pop and superpower harmonies” from this four-piece. Their latest album Fish Pond Fish (2020) is a study of natural history in song, celebrating geology, meteorology, ornithology, astronomy and botany. “The experience of nature, and therefore of self, in this album is one of stasis and change. You notice change, and might desire to return to past states,” the band explains.

Cretin Hop Halloween 
9 PM @ Fuze Box, Albany | $5, femmes in free
Says the Cretin crew: “There is no dance party more depraved, no ghoul’s night ghastlier, and no festival more fiendish! Join us for the 9th annual (kinda) Halloween party that will turn your hair white and haunt your dreams.” Catch sets from Misfits cover band Horror Business and power-pop/punk band Mystery Girl. Plus, enjoy a costume contest at midnight, trick or treatingm a limited run of custom Halloween Hop buttonsm Tarot card readings and plenty of dancing.

Saturday, Oct. 30

The World Famous Glen Miller Band
3 PM @ Troy Savings Bank Music Hall | $29+
This 18-piece swing ensemble, covering ’30s-’40s bandleader Glenn Miller, will transport you to another time and place in the gorgeous Troy Music Hall. The performance will span from Miller’s work as a civilian artist as well as his work while fronting the US Army Air Force band.

5 PM @ Whiskey Pickle, Troy | FREE
Super Dark Collective has booked a massive lineup (inside and outside on the block) of musicians to play this Halloween street festival on Fulton Street. Food will be provided by Mudaddy Flats and the evening will also feature a pumpkin carving and costume contest, a glassblowing pop-up, First House Rising astrology readings and more. Musical acts include Brent Betit, Jungle Punk, Challenge Accepted, Big Maybe, Roost World, Cindy Cane, No Touchy Touchy, Pat Diesel, Eyes Everywhere and groop.lab.

6 PM @ SingleCut North & Side Stage Tap Room, Clifton Park | FREE
Hit an early show before the night festivities with post-punk/synth-pop duo Architrave. The indie dance rock pair is inspired by dark-wave, 80’s new-wave, and sci-fi soundcapes so they’re bringing the spooky vibes. Put on your costume and hit the tap room for their tunes and some great food from Flaco’s Tacos Food Truck.

August Burns Red w/s/g Fit for a King, Erra and Like Moths to Flames
7 PM @ Empire Live, Albany | $28.50-$32
Celebrate AGB’s 10th anniversary of Leveler. The metalcore band recently dropped a re-release of the 2011 album, fully re-recorded featuring new guitar solos, alternate tunings, and guest appearances from Matt Heafy (Trivium), Misha Mansoor (Periphery), and Ryan Kirby (Fit For A King).

Gojira w/s/g Knocked Loose and Alien Weaponry
7 PM @ Albany Capital Center | $37.50-$40
French heavy metal band Gojira is known for their “dark, crushing metal brightened by triumphant arena-rock melodies–contrast-heavy and emotionally charged.” Their seventh album Fortitude was released in April and is celebrated for its fully realized sound. Forbes said the album “unequivocally showcases Gojira’s knack for seamlessly evolving their sound, while staying true to their ferociously heavy sonic aesthetics. You’d be hard pressed to find another metal album that boasts such devastating ‘riffage,’ with an accessibility and production aimed for the masses.”

Illuminate: Masquerade
8 PM @ Hudson Candy Factory, Troy | $30 
Illuminate Dance Troy creates safe containers and spaces for people to gather in collaborative community without judgement. Illuminate weaves live painting, music and performance arts to create an unforgettable immersive experience. There will be sound healing, yoga, vegan food and local wine from Stable Gate onsite as well. The show starts at 8:30 PM sharp, featuring performers Cosmal, Mixed Roots, DJ Sky Root and an aerial performance by Timber McCarthy. Don’t miss out.

Start Making Sense Halloween Party w/s/g Muddy Ruckus
8 PM @ Putnam Place, Saratoga Springs | $20
Everyone’s favorite Talking Heads tribute band is throwing a monstrous bash featuring Maine rock duo Muddy Ruckus. Get dancing to legendary ’80s hits of a special caliber.

Halloween Fun-African Market
12 PM @ Hamilton Hill Arts Center, Schenectady
Join the HHAC family in the center’s Sculpture Park for the last African Market until next summer. There will be costumes, free food and treats, pumpkin painting, face painting and a performance of “Thriller”! From 7-10 p.m., join in for a festival of lights featuring over 50 Black history themed Jack O’lanterns on display!
