Basilica Soundscape 2021 Initial Lineup and Change of Venue Announced

Basilica Hudson and The Creative Independent‘s legendary “anti-festival” weekend is returning with change of environment and a unique lineup from Friday, Sept. 17 to Saturday, Sept. 18.

Having experienced Soundscape in 2019, I have to say, it’s a truly unique and genuinely curated festival that feels powerful and immersive. It’s a place to see one-of-a-kind acts and discover new artists you’ll fall in love with.

So far announced, this year boasts Moor Mother–the absolute powerhouse of a musician, poet and visual artist I first experienced through the 2020 release of CLEPSYDRAas well as wonder vocalist and composer Circuit des Yeux, folk singer Tomberlin and composer/experimental media artist William Basinski. The full weekend’s schedule will be released soon.

Soundscape is traditionally held at the arts space Basilica Hudson. This year, the organizers are collaborating with Chatham, NY venue PS21-Performance Spaces for the 21st Century. The 100-acre campus will offer a whole new way to experience the festival. It’s trails, meadows and apple orchards will give attendees plenty of space to meditate on the meaning and experience of the curated sounds.

The Ridgewood, Queens-based music and performance venue H0l0 will also be involved, curating a series of ambient afterparties and a maze-like visual art installation.

Early bird tickets are available at a discounted rate until July 1. It’s also worth noting that members of Basilica Hudson’s Patreon receive exclusive updates and get a 10 percent discount code. The festival will cap at 500 per night, so “attendees are welcome to opt for a single evening, as each night will feature unique sounds and experimentation,” Basilica’s announcement reads.
