Capital Region Venues Light Up Red to Support Restart Act
On September 1st, New York State’s Capital Region venues participated in the #RedAlertRestart movement by lighting up red for the night. These venues include the Palace Theatre, Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Times Union Center, Lark Hall, Putnam Place, Proctors Theatre among others.
The campaign was created to take action to help push the Restart Act into motion. The act was proposed to provide assistance to all businesses and employees in the live entertainment industry. Over 1500 venues across the United States unified together both big and small. The COVID-19 pandemic has effected all job fields but the live entertainment industry continues to be effected deeply due to state and nationwide restrictions leaving no work for the majority of the industry.
With no work, many have been left with nothing, and those who have been able to find jobs may have had to switch careers. According to the WeMakeEvents organization, 77 percent of employees in live entertainment industry have lost virtually all their income. That includes 12 million people across North America. With over hundreds of thousands of businesses also effected, the economic impact now adds up to nearly $1 trillion.
The #redAlertRESTART campaign’s goals include not only to pass the restart act but to help extend Pandemic Unemployment for 1099 and freelance workers. To learn more about the movement please click here. See photos of Capital Region Venues taking action below:
