The Tonight Show Welcomes on Trey Anastasio As First Performer Since COVID Impact
Phish Frontman Trey Anastasio became the first musician to perform on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon since the beginning of the COVID pandemic in March. On Tuesday, August 12th, Anastasio played “I Never Needed You Like This Before” alongside The Roots that from his brand new album Lonely Trip. Prior to the airing, Phish fans got ready for The Tonight Show with their weekly Dinner in a Movie premiere that happens on YouTube and Facebook.
The lo-fi album was written by Anastasio while quarantined in his New York City apartment and featured help from longtime co-writer Tom Marshall and Scott Herman. Kicking off the performance, Fallon expressed his excitement to have music back in the studio and help one of the only printed copies of Lonely Trip. Watch it all below:
