Hard work and determination are only a couple traits of what makes Proper Gnar owner Latosha Stone a successful business owner and leader. She also happens to be the first African-American female skateboarding company owner. The company has seen a rise in growth thanks to being featured on Beyonce Knowles’ list of product orders called Black Parade which is a directory of black owned businesses.

Her skateboard products have also appeared on HBO’s show called “Betty” which is a show about young female skateboarders growing up New York City. What makes Stone so special is that she also uses the power of owning a business to help protest and raise activism about the social injustices that still exist in the United States of America. According to Blacknews.com she states:

“Skateboarding has traditionally been a man’s sport, which is why I am so passionate about my role as a black woman who challenges past assumptions and shows that skateboarding is for all of us. I take pride in creating authentic and beautiful art that stands out from other skate brands.”
