GameFreak Announces First Ever Expansion For Pokémon Sword and Shield
Pokémon fans, rejoice! Nintendo held its first Nintendo Direct of the year bringing great news for the future of Pokémon lover. Game Freak, the developer behind the popular gaming franchise announced its plans for an add-on expansion for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon shield. The unprecedented expansion will bring forth an abundance of new Pokémon in two new zones —The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundr. They are slated to release individually with the first pack being released in June 2020, and the latter latter in the Fall.
The expansions will most definitely push our current understanding of Pokémon. Personally, I’m here for it. This move could change the longevity of the games and bring a fresh refresher when it comes to updating the game.
If that news doesn’t excite you then for you fashionistas GameFreak will also add over 100 new clothing to style your in-game avatar.
They’ll be two different versions of the expansion pass which allows the player to catch different Pokémon. The story also plays out differently in each respective pack. Each expansion pass featuring a unique cast of characters for players to meet along the way.
If you don’t buy the expansion pass, you’ll still be able to trade for all the new creatures that Game Freak adds to the game thanks to free updates the studio plans to release. Additionally, if you own a copy of one of the previous Pokémon games such as X and Y or Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, you’ll be able to transfer some of the previous monsters you caught when Nintendo releases Pokémon Home next month.
You can pre-order the expansion pass starting today for $30. Game Freak said it plans to share more details about the DLCs before release.
