Of Clocks And Clouds Burns Down The Knitting Factory
(Writer: Kenny Cunningham)
Five piece powerhouse Of Clocks And Clouds set the roof of the Knitting Factory on fire on Saturday night, March 23rd. This new arrangement of the band, which includes brothers Tom, Nick, and Joe Salgo, as well as Max Devlin and Zander Ryzinski, is coming off of their recent opening set for Kung Fu at Brooklyn Bowl, and ABSOLUTELY capitalized on the momentum from that gig.
Saturday night was the band’s first headline set of 2019 with their new arrangement, and after this performance, should not be their last. They ripped an hour and a half set, and had the crowd at Knitting Factory headbanging, grooving, dancing, and just plain gettin’ down! From the opening notes, it was clear that their sound was big enough to fill that room, along with any other room in the country. “Django” is a groovy, heavy, funky jam, and immediately raised the energy level of the room. It was apparent from looking around the crowd that everyone was enjoying themselves immensely. Midway through their set, they brought up Colin Patierno from The Phryg for a raucous “Sunshine Of Your Love” cover. They closed out the night with a “Hole In My Head > Chop Suey (System of a Down cover) > Hole In My Head” sandwich that left the audience yearning for more.

With new additions Tom Salgo handling the bulk of the duties on lead guitar, Nick Salgo on drums, and Zander Ryzinski on keys, the band has a new eclectic, funky, heavy sound. Tom ripped some shreddy guitar solos, with Joe providing the steady sound on rhythm guitar. Nick Salgo bangs the drums with the best of them, and provides a great low-end combo with bassist Max Devlin. Max’s bass tones might be the signature sound of the band, providing funky backbeats and danceable grooves. And Joe Salgo’s vocals…WOW!! The voice of an angel. This band is now a must-not-miss show, and will be at Olive’s in Nyack on April 13th, Mercury Lounge on May 3rd, and back at Disc Jam Music Festival in June.
