Panasonic Shows Off Their New Full Frame Mirrorless Cameras
If you are a photographer, you know of the current mirrorless revolution that is happening. It all started when Sony started to develop their Alpha 7 series cameras nearly 5 years ago. In the past year major camera makers Canon and Nikon have also developed their own mirrorless cameras as well as creating new mounts but not quite making the same strides as Sony has. Let’s not forget that Sony has had 5 years to perfect their camera models. Now it is time to add another competitor to the table, Panasonic.
You may be asking yourself, hasn’t Panasonic already released mirrorless cameras? Yes, yes they have and their GH lineup has been many videographers go-to camera for video production. The only drawback to this system is that it is micro four thirds sensor based. Why is that looked at as a bad thing? Well if you are a photographer, you want to be able to let in as much light as possible. The micro four thirds sensor size is twice as small as a full frame camera. But have no fear, Panasonic plans on being a serious competitor in the full frame market. What is cool about their new cameras is that they are partnering with Leica and Sigma to create the L-Mount. This is something special because Sigma has mastered the art of lens creation along with Leica’s long history of making great cameras. The two cameras that Panasonic has released are the S1 and S1R. Just like Sony that have chosen to make an entry level full frame camera along with a higher resolution version. One cool thing is that these cameras are closer to the size of a DSLR so they will fit comfortably in your hands. The price for the S1 will be $2,499 and the S1R is priced at 3,699.
