Artist Series: Joe Biss
Joe Biss first became interested in rocks, minerals and fossils as a child when his father took him and his sister to the Albany Gem and Mineral show each year on their birthday. As time went on, Joe continued to develop interest in the arts including sculpture. After High School, Biss went to Adirondack Community College in Queensbury, New York where he took his first classes in Geology and Mineralogy and continued his education at SUNY Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh, New York. In the back ground of it all, Joe started working with sterling silver to create pendants, rings and earrings with natural and cut minerals and fossils. It was in May 2017 that Joe Biss decided that he wanted to start designing and fashioning his own gemstones with the use of a 1930’s Sapphire Faceting machine.
Last month, Biss took a big step forward with his art and business by starting a sole proprietorship titled Joesph Biss Designs. Please watch Joe’s “Artist Series” video to learn more about what he has been up to!
