When I say coming in hot I mean in every sense of the word… Trombone Shorty and his band Orleans Avenue came out just swingin’!!! I had never seen him live. I was instantly blown away. The feeling never subsided until I was packing up to go home.
One hit after another was seemingly the theme for the evening. I have never seen Troy Savings Bank Music Hall so lively. The theater boasts perfect acoustics and the band used that to their full advantage. Kudos to Shorty’s sound guy because he nailed it! Not too loud so you could feel every last note penetrate your soul.
I want to pause and appreciate some things that really impressed me about Shorty’s game… I quickly recognized what an amazing band leader he is. He put a lot of time into showcasing his fellow musicians, all top notch in their craft as well. Throughout the evening, he signed and passed out a few tambourines just mid show without missing a single beat. You could feel the love this man feels for performing and bringing people the joy of music.
What a joy it was to witness this evening…
