Reunited Cribtet makes a return visit to Van Dyck Music Club

This combo of young musicians have played at the reborn Van Dyck Music Club several times . They met as students at the University of Hartford and the band has been together for 10 years. Like most bands with this longevity, there has been some turnover. This configuration for the evening’s performance is a reunion of the band as it was a year back shortly after their last gig at the Van Dyck.

Core members from the last performance were Dan Jantson, Aidan Slate , Gavin Tarling and Patrick Gordon. The band is NY based, Parker Lewis was an addition and now resides in Ohio. Ben Malynoski is based in NYC but is working on other projects.

The group continues to stretch the boundaries of post bop as before playing both originals and covers.

The opener was Eubie Blake’s “Memories of You”, a century old tune that is now public domain. This was arranged by Aidan Slate. The next was “Cry B Tonight” which composed by Aidan.

Drummer Dan Jantson’s “Foxgloves” was next, inspired by the flower known for its medicinal properties to treat heart conditions.

“Fingers & Toes”, a composition by Gavin Tarling was humorously named for the challenge playing this composition presents to the ensemble. “Todd Bones Denise” was based on a personal story.

The only original slower ballad of the evening was “The Heart Grows Fonder”, followed by “Ramses the Great”, an inside joke. The senior member of the band trombonist Parker Lewis was honored by “Professor P” though teased about his return to his home state of Ohio.
